[ Mick follows the music. When he gets by the pool, he hangs back a second, hands in his pockets, listening. He probably shouldn't interrupt?

But his footsteps weren't exactly quiet either. ]

[ Also, Piper's not that unobservant. He stops at the end of the melody, and looks up. ]

Hey, Mick.

[pyrogue]

Piper. [ This is already feeling a bit awkward, so he sits down at the edge of the pool, though he keeps his feet up. ]

You holding up alright?

[socialactivillain]

[ You weenie, it's a heated pool. ]

About as well as can be expected. At least we're used to weird, right?

[pyrogue]

[ He's wearing socks and shoes! leave him be ]

This one takes the cake as far as weird goes.

[socialactivillain]

[ It's like 80 degrees out, you nerd, take your socks off. ]

Yeah, being kidnapped to an alternate reality is definitely up there.

[pyrogue]

[ Wow, no, his feet might get cold. Ask him again when it's in the 90s. ]

Y'know, I could probably deal with that? And coping with the time travel or the people from other realities ain't a problem. And you gotta love the hover cars. But all at once is a bit much.

[ Pause... ] Especially since he turned up. [ He nods his head back to the house, to indicate their other roommate. ]

[socialactivillain]

[ Piper nods, stirring his foot in small circles in the pool, sending ripples out around it. ]

I was sort of wondering how you were dealing with that.

[pyrogue]

He's -- different. [ Mick's usually fairly frank and open, but something about Captain Cold makes him close up a little. ]

He hasn't made you, uh, uncomfortable, has he? [ Read: has he hit on you and will Mick have to steer you both away from each other so James doesn't try to drown his sorrows in cherry jello or something. ]

Different is definitely... a word for it. And no, I wouldn't say uncomfortable, but... It was weird.

[ He tried to lead into it, he swears. But it just sort of bursts out: ]

Weird as in, he tried to hit on you too? [ Wait, shit, he didn't mean to add the too there. Change the subject? ]

James says you're not allowed to date him. [ Completely and 100% James, Mick totally wasn't a part of this he would never care too much about who's dating Cold.

First of all, since when does James get a vote in who I'm allowed to date? [ Yes, because that's the important thing here. ]

Secondly, no matter how much he was flirting with me, and no matter how weird an alternate universe he's from, in what life would I ever consider dating Cold?

[pyrogue]

[ Defensively: ] I don't know, friends don't let friends date Captain Cold? [ Beat. ] But I get your point.

[ He leans back, hands on the grass, relaxing a little. ]

That's what I said, you know. It's Cold. None of us would ever... [ Unless he himself is. In an alternate universe. He trails off, making a face. ]

[socialactivillain]

[ He glances over, watching Mick's face. ]

...So, what do you think you're like in his world? Has he said anything?

[pyrogue]

[ Mick glances away. ] It's more what he hasn't said. But yeah, he's mentioned me. Him. [ Pause. ] His partner.

[socialactivillain]

...Speaking of partners, I, uh. He and I were talking yesterday, and... He kind of implied. Some things.

[ HOW TO EXPLAIN THIS... ]

[pyrogue]

[ Mick suspects he knows what's coming. He leans forward again, arms draped across his knees. ]

He implies a lotta things. Have you noticed? Guy seems allergic to saying anything outright.

[ Beat. But that doesn't mean he can resist asking. ] What'd he say?

[socialactivillain]

We were talking politics, vaguely, and marriage equality came up. And he's uh, apparently kind of married.

Maybe.



To a man.

[pyrogue]

[ And there it is. ]

That... would explain what Trickster was telling me about. He said he joked that Cold and I were married. He apparently didn't take the joke well.

[socialactivillain]

[ Under any other circumstances, he'd normally be at least a little amused by James' particular sense of humor, but that's a little too real right now. Instead, he huffs a sigh. ]

He really just can't help himself, can he?

[pyrogue]

He'd poke a bear with a stick. Cold's practically a polar bear as is.

[ Mick rubs the bridge of his nose. The same question he asked Trickster is running through his head now. But it seems to be even more relevant, now that he knows there's substance behind the suspicions and not just him and James getting each other riled up. ]

What am I supposed to do?

[socialactivillain]

[ Piper sighs, looking down into the pool and stirring one foot idly in the water. ]

I don't think you can do anything. It's not like he... expects anything from you, right?

[pyrogue]

No, doesn't seem to. Just seems... weird to leave it. But then what am I gonna say? "Sorry I'm not him"? Can't apologize for something that's not my fault.

It's surreal as all hell. If you'd told me that in an alternate universe me 'n Cold would be -- hell. [ His head is officially in his hands by this point. ] I don't wanna think about it.

[socialactivillain]

He's pretty insistent on reminding us he's not the same Cold we know. I don't think he expects an apology because you're not the Mick he knows.

[ He wrinkles his nose. ] Neither do I, to be honest.

[pyrogue]

That's true. I'm not gonna hold him to things our Cold has done either. That'd be unfair.

[ Mick sighs a little before falling silent.


He's not gonna think about it. No. Nope.





He's thinking about it. ] This Cold is different, right? Not like our Len at all.
